Hugh Right Trawick

Frequently referred to as Hugh Wright Trawick. His middle name is referred to as Wright in some documents and Right in others. Current belief is that Right is right because his infant grandson, the child of Martin Whitford, died of yellow fever shortly before his parents died of the same disease. The name of the Martin Whitford's infant Hugh Right Trawick is inscribed on the tombstone. Of course, the name Hugh R. is printed on his marriage license as well as his obituary in the Natchez Weekly Gazette.

Hugh Right Married Julia Ann Whitford on August 14, 1835.  Their son, Martin Whitford, was born on June 1, 1838--Just a year and 4 months before Hugh Right's untimely death.

The burial place of Hugh Right is currently unknown. According to the Natchez Weekly Gazette dated Tuesday Morning, Oct. 1, 1839, "Hugh R. Trawick died on September 7, 1839." (The newspaper article simply says: "In Hinds...On the 7th, Mr. Hugh R. Trawick.") Currently, it is believed that he died in Auburn, Mississippi--which has since been absorbed into Learned, Mississippi. At present, nobody knows how he died.

Julia Ann Whitford Trawick remarried after Hugh Right died. She married a Mr. Harrell.
